GCTV Advanced Training Workshops

Following is a list and description of some of the Advanced Training Workshops available to certified GCTV Producers:

JVC Mini-DV Camcorder Workshop- If you’ve never used a Mini-DV camcorder before, the 2 JVC camcorders that we have at GCTV provide a nice introduction to the format. You’ll learn how to white balance, the differences between Auto and Manual modes, how to get good audio with the internal mic or XLR inputs, how to use them with a tripod, and also how to use the optional remote lens controller. This workshop can be scheduled as an individual or group workshop with an instructor of your choice.

Canon GL2 Camcorder Workshop- A more advanced Mini-Dv Camcorder, the Canon GL2 is a great tool for slightly more advanced camcorder operators. Learn the difference between the camera’s 7 modes, how to white balance, how to get good audio with the internal mic or the XLR mic attachment, how to shoot in film mode, and how to use the optional remote lens controller. This workshop can be scheduled as an individual or group workshop with an instructor of your choice.

Canon XH A1 HD Camcorder Workshop- The XH A1 is a top of the line SD/HD camcorder for our most advanced camcorder operators. Learn how to change modes between SD and HD and the different frame rates available, how to use and get good audio from the internal mic or the built in XLR adapters, how to use the optic image stabilizer, using different filters to get the look you want, and differences between the cameras modes. This workshop can be scheduled as an individual or group workshop with an instructor of your choice.

Advanced Studio Graphics Workshop- Want to learn more advanced ways of using our Compix Graphics System to make the most of your program’s graphics? You will learn how to use shadows and edging to enhance the look of your text, how to use transitions between pages, how to make rolling, crawling, and typing pages in addition to regular still pages, and how to use shapes and images to enhance the look of your graphics. This workshop can be scheduled as an individual or group workshop with an instructor of your choice.

Advanced Audio Workshop- Learn many of the advanced features of the studio’s Mackie Audio Board! You will learn how to use the EQ features to take out hums or rumbles, how to use the solo feature of the board to test audio levels while you are live without it going to tape, how to use the Auxiliary and Utility outputs, and how to use the internal effects that are programmed into the board to enhance the sound of your audio. This workshop can be scheduled as an individual or group workshop with an instructor of your choice.

Audio Workshop for Recording Music Performances- Do you want to learn more about how to get the best audio possible from a band or music act’s performances? Using GCTV’s Control room Audio Board, you will learn about mic placement for different instruments, how to set up and use our Audio Snake, how to send a monitor mix back out to the band, and how to use the internal audio effects of the Mackie Mixer to enhance the audio you are recording. This workshop can be scheduled as an individual or group workshop with the Public Access Coordinator.

Advanced Directing Workshop- Learn the more advanced features of GCTV’s Echolab studio switcher including how to set up Chroma Key, how to change between different wipe patterns, how to use the insert Bus to do split screen and triple overlay effects, using the joystick, using the shift key to bring up additional inputs, and how to take roll ins from different decks and the Princeton server. This workshop can be scheduled as an individual or group workshop with an instructor of your choice.

Advanced Media 100/Media 100 Producer Workshop- If you know how to piece a program together in Media 100 and you want to take it a step further, try this workshop. Learn how to use the audio effects window, how to use more advanced transitions and picture in picture effects using custom settings, how to pull in still images and use them in a video or graphics line, how to make more creative graphics including moving text, scrolls, rolls and crawls, and how to export your program for burning to a disc. This workshop can be scheduled as an individual or group workshop with an instructor of your choice.

DVD Studio Pro Workshop- Do you want to be able to create beautiful, multilayered DVD menus for your finished videos? Learn how to use DVD Studio Pro’s templates, how to insert background music, how to insert buttons, text, and still images, chapter markers, motion menus and much more! This workshop can be scheduled as an individual or group workshop with the Public Access Coordinator.

Internet Video Workshop- Learn everything you need to know about how to convert your Program for posting on the web! Includes instruction on Mpeg- 1, 2 and 4 formats, how big or small to make your video, how much to compress your video, conversions for iPod and Video Podcasts, posting on You Tube or MySpace, and how to use Quicktime Pro, Ulead or Compressor to get the right settings for your web video. This workshop can be scheduled as an individual or group workshop with the Public Access Coordinator.
