Grafton’s Public Hearing For Charter Television License Set For October 27th

GRAFTON: Grafton town officials have scheduled a public hearing for Tuesday, October 27th to discuss what the community would like to see in a proposed cable television licensing renewal agreement with Charter Communications, Inc. The public ascertainment hearing has been scheduled by the Grafton Board of Selectmen and will be held in Conference Room A at the Grafton Memorial Municipal Center, 30 Providence Road starting at 7:00.

Charter Communications currently provides cable television programming to the Town of Grafton under a ten year license agreement that began September 21, 2000 and concludes on September 20, 2010. The current license can be viewed at the Grafton Town Clerk’s office during normal business hours, and can also be viewed on line at: http://www.graftonma.gov/Public_Documents/GraftonMA_Committees/Cable%20Oversight/CATVLicense.html.

Grafton residents are encouraged to attend the public ascertainment hearing and provide citizen comment on the cable television needs of the community. Those individuals and organizations that have made use of the public access (PEG) services of Grafton Community Television are particularly encouraged to come to the public hearing and provide testimony.

"Negotiations between the town and Charter Communications are proceeding smoothly,” according to Cable Advisory Committee Chairman Robert Hassinger. “Now we hope that citizens will attend this October 27th public ascertainment hearing. The Cable Advisory Committee wants town residents to participate and to be able to discuss what they feel the town’s needs are in the next cable television license agreement with Charter. This is an opportunity for Grafton residents to have their say as the Board of Selectmen and the town get closer to finalizing an agreement.”

The Board of Selectmen, as the Cable License Issuing Authority for Grafton established a Cable Advisory Committee (CAC) to advise it and act on its behalf to the extent permitted under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 166A for cable licensing and license renewal. The CAC negotiates initial cable license agreements and cable license renewals and conducts community outreach and information activities with information and guidance from the Cable TV Oversight Committee. Current members of the Cable Advisory Committee are Bob Hassinger, Chairman, Peter Carlson and Mark Weinberg, Clerk. The Cable Advisory Committee meets at the Grafton Memorial Municipal Center at 30 Providence Road. Additional information on the Grafton Cable Advisory Committee can be found at the Town of Grafton website under Boards and Commissions http://www.town.Grafton.ma.us.

Public Invited As Grafton Community Television Plans June 24th Live Broadcast From Grafton Common

GRAFTON: Grafton Community Television invites town residents to join them for a live broadcast from the historic Grafton Common on Wednesday evening, June 24th. The Two Guys Who Like To Talk Show, an hour long program hosted by GCTV producers Rick Schultze and Bill Robidoux, will originate live from the Grafton Common bandstand from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM. There will be an opportunity during the hour program for guests who are part of the Grafton Common audience to make comments and ask questions.

According to Rick Schultze, who also serves as a member of the town's Cable Television Oversight Committee, "We hope that many Grafton residents can join us on the Common for this live broadcast. This is the second year we’ve been able to take our in studio show outside and it’s great to be able to share this with our local viewers. Doing a live broadcast from the Common's bandstand is something that is not done all that often. The June 24th broadcast not only showcases the Grafton Common but also highlights the many production capabilities of Grafton Community Television."

Perhaps the most photographed town common in New England, the centerpiece of the four acre Grafton Common is its bandstand (also often called a gazebo) built in 1935 to film Eugene O'Neil's "Ah, Wilderness." The June 24th live broadcast from the Grafton Common is made possible with the cooperation of Charter Communications who are providing use of their mobile production van. Questions about the Wednesday, June 24th live broadcast can be directed to Grafton Community Television Public Access Coordinator Danielle DeLucia at 508-839-2983 or e-mail: GCTV11@charter.net.

Grafton Community Television Plans Live Broadcast From Grafton Common On June 25th

GRAFTON: Grafton Community Television will broadcast live from the historic Grafton Common on Wednesday evening, June 25th. The Two Guys Who Like To Talk Show, an hour long program hosted by GCTV producers Rick Schultze and Bill Robidoux, will originate live from the Grafton Common bandstand beginning at 8:00 PM. The public is invited to attend. There will be an opportunity during the hour program for guests who are part of the Grafton Common audience to make comments and ask questions.

According to Rick Schultze, who also serves as a member of the town's Cable Television Oversight Committee, "It's exciting when we can take one of our Grafton public access shows outside of the studios. We get to video tape many special events held at the Common, but doing a live broadcast from the Common's bandstand is something that is not done all that often. The June 25th broadcast not only showcases the Grafton Common but also highlights the capabilities of Grafton Community Television."

Perhaps the most photographed town common in New England, the centerpiece of the four acre Grafton Common is its bandstand (also often called a gazebo) built in 1935 to film Eugene O'Neil's "Ah, Wilderness." The June 25th live broadcast from the Grafton Common is made possible with the cooperation of Charter Communications who are providing use of their mobile broadcast studios. Questions about the Wednesday, June 25th live broadcast can be directed to Grafton Community Television Public Access Coordinator Danielle DeLucia at 508-839-2983 or e-mail: GCTV11@charter.net

Grafton Community Television's role is more like a combination school and equipment library where individuals and organizations are trained how to use TV production equipment and learn how to make TV shows, and then are provided the free use of equipment and cable channel time to produce and air their shows."

Town's Special Events Featured On What's Happenin,' Grafton?

GRAFTON: The October episode of What's Happenin,' Grafton? Grafton Community Television's news and information program will feature video highlights of three special events held recently in the community.

Debuting Thursday, October 25th at 7:00 PM on Grafton Community Television Channel 11, the show will feature the Apple Pie Social held on the Grafton Common, the Blackstone Valley Stagecoach visit to the Community Television studios in South Grafton and the groundbreaking for the new Tufts Vet School biosafety laboratory at Grafton Science Park.

In addition to the special event segments, each episode of What's Happenin,' Grafton? features a personality profile of a Grafton resident. The show airs on Grafton Community Television Channel 11 Thursdays at 7:00 PM, Fridays at 8:30 PM and Sundays at 8:30 PM.

New episodes of What's Happenin,' Grafton? (WHG) are also planned for November and January. According to October program host and Grafton Community Television public access assistant Bill Robidoux, "What we like about What's Happenin,' Grafton? is that a lot of peoples' efforts go into putting the show together and getting it out on the airways. It's a collaborative effort where Grafton residents can also be involved. The GCTV staff is always looking for video footage from events held in Grafton to feature on the program. The more participation we can get from Grafton organizations submitting video tape of their events, the better this show will become."

Grafton organizations holding special events are encouraged to take video tape of their events and submit it to the GCTV staff for future episodes of WHG. Questions about format and what kind of video to submit can be answered by Grafton Community Television Public Access Coordinator Danielle DeLucia at 508-839-2983 or e-mail: GCTV11@charter.net

New Web Site Address For Grafton Community Television

GRAFTON: Grafton Community Television has a new web site address. The new address is www.GraftonTV.org and was activated during the first week of October by the Grafton Cable Television Oversight Committee. This new simpler Internet address replaces an older Geocities site address that had been used for many years.

According to Cable Television Oversight Committee Chairman Robert Hassinger, "The new Grafton Community Television web site address is the first step toward an enhanced presence on the Internet and is part of GCTV's new public outreach and communication efforts. The web address, Grafton TV.org, is easier to remember and speaks to what Grafton cable access has become over the years - Grafton's very own TV stations. The new web site hosting arrangements will also give us much more capacity for content and options for exciting new web site capabilities. Great thanks go to GCTV Public Access Producer Audrey Egan, a former member of the Oversight Committee, who created and continues to maintain the GCTV web site every week, and whose assistance has made this move possible."

Grafton Community Television provides programming on three distinct public access channels in the Town of Grafton over the Charter Communications cable system. Grafton Public Access Television Hosts First Summer Video Camp

GRAFTON: Grafton Public Access Television hosted five Grafton residents aged 12-15 for its first Summer Video Camp held during the week of July 9th to13th. Co-sponsored by the Town of Grafton Recreation Department, the camp was held at the Public Access studios on Providence Road.

The camp was patterned after a similar summer camp conducted by Westboro Cable Access. The Grafton campers learned how to run studio and hand held video cameras, how to edit video, and as a group they completed their own show of “Movie Reviews.” This program will be aired on Grafton Public Access Channel 11 in early August.
